He is recognized as a saint by both the Eastern Orthodox and Roman Catholic churches. His feast is celebrated on May 28.<\/p>\n<p>St. William is also the hero of one of the earliest and most fully-developed cycles of\u00a0<i><a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Chanson_de_geste\">chansons de geste<\/a><\/i>, the late eleventh century <em>Geste de Guillaume d&#8217;Orange. O<\/em>ne of the poems of this cycle,\u00a0the <i>Moniage Guillaume<\/i> or \u201cMonkhood of William,\u201d concerns the end of St. William\u2019s life: his tonsuring at Aniane, his founding of the monastery of Gellone, and several of his miracles.<\/p>\n<p>Two versions of the <em>Moniage Guillaume<\/em> exist, but unfortunately neither version is available in English.
